Being a bookmark and not a book

I remember a quote of Albert Einstein that "You need not study the things that can be looked up in the log book". This thought has been there in my mind for a long time. I still don't know the full 8th multiplication table by heart. And no wonder that my spellings are poor. Today the greatest log book we have is the google. I believe that you need not learn any things that you can get on a search result on google but all you have the know is "How to search it". Google has a good searching algorithm and it gives relevant search results. But we have to accept the fact that most of the sites are not fully SEO(Searh Engine Optimized). So some times we have to tweak search queries  to get the results you want. Now what we have to really learn is the art of search and have to be creative. You may ask me "Hay i have to pass the exams!!!". The key to learning is understanding and if u have understood it there is no need for study at all. All you have to remember is the bookmarks not the book. And i bet you the you can write more than the book actually has.

  1. Nice writing, but understanding is based on things that we already know and remember.
Only if you know a word, i.e, remember the word and its meaning, you cannot understand its context. You don't need to know the 8 table, but don't you think it makes life easier if you do! Saves you from having to search everything! Also search is not perfect!!
The key is to know what to remember and what not to.

  2. Yes its always handy to remember the 8 the table but the primary reason we being intelligent creatures on this planet is that we off load all the data to a external media and learn and pass on only the processing part :)
